Robin Shaw is to leave his role as Saga Travel CEO, the company has revealed.

Shaw joined Saga in March 2010 as CEO of the cruise division and was appointed CEO of Saga Travel in January 2018. Before joining Saga, he held a series of senior roles in the travel industry with Avis Europe and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.

Shaw has been at the helm during Saga’s new-build programme, which has seen Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure join the fleet.

Saga group chief executive officer Euan Sutherland said: “I wish to thank Robin for his contribution to Saga over the past 10 years. Robin joined Saga as head of cruise before taking over all our travel operations in 2018.

“Under his leadership Saga has developed a unique, boutique cruising offer that has really put us on the map in a competitive industry. He has been a great advocate for Saga customers and our brand and we wish him well for the future.”

Shaw added: “The time is right for me to find a new challenge. I am proud of everything we have achieved in Saga Travel, particularly the creation of our two new ships. I look forward to new challenges as the travel industry resets itself in the wake of the covid-19 crisis.”

Speaking on these pages in 2019, Shaw told CTN the line’s new ships represented a “fantastic opportunity” for the line to become “the best cruise line operating out of the UK, bar none”.

Saga recently revealed that Spirit of Adventure will sail its inaugural cruise in November.
