Demand for multi-generational cruise holidays on the up, data finds

cruise predictions for 2024

A growing number of cruise passengers are increasingly inclined to book a multi-generational getaway at sea, according to new data

The findings, which were revealed by cruise.co.uk as part of a survey of more than 700 customers, saw 69% of grandparents and parents say they are now more likely to sail with their extended family, including children, compared to five years ago.

Just over a third (34%) said their primary motivation was to create lasting memories, 28% stated it was the value for money of a sailing, while the variety of on-board activities and entertainment was selected by 27%.

The results also revealed the most popular destination for a multi-generational holiday-at-sea is the Mediterranean, chosen by 63% of respondents, followed by the Caribbean (18%) and Northern Europe (10%).

Cruise represents ‘cost-effective’ holiday option for families

Tony Andrews, managing director of cruise.co.uk, said cruise holidays are the “ideal way to spend quality time” with families and friends.

“There are numerous family-friendly activities available both onboard and ashore, while the variety of accommodation, entertainment and dining options ensures there is something to suit every taste and budget,” he added.

“And with the opportunity to visit numerous destinations in one holiday, a cruise represents a convenient, cost-effective option for family getaways.”

Earlier this year, the company’s annual survey revealed more than half (53%) of British customers are “certain or very likely” to book an ex-UK itinerary in 2024.
