Seabourn has announced that its two purpose-built expedition ships, Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit, will be equipped with “next generation” wifi connectivity with SpaceX’s Starlink software.
The upgraded technology will provide guests with “faster service, greater connectivity and more reliable wifi”, a statement said.
Starlink’s wifi was installed on Venture in time for its 12 May voyage, while Pursuit will be equipped with the enhanced connectivity after it launches this summer.
Seabourn ‘meeting growing demands’
Seabourn president Natalya Leahy said: “We are committed to providing the best ultra-luxury expedition experiences at sea and the Starlink partnership will offer a significantly enhanced connectivity experience during our expedition journeys.
“From the polar regions to Australia and the South Pacific, our guests will experience a more reliable connection, allowing them to share those special moments and experiences with their loved ones.”
The line’s vice-president of technology Kathleen Erickson added: “Starlink offers internet capabilities and functionality to meet growing service demands globally and I am so pleased that guests and crew members on both of our expedition ships will benefit from this innovative technology.”
Venture made its maiden call in the UK on 10 May, ahead of ship visits in Dublin (today, 16 May) and in Leith on 24 May.
At the time, Leahy added: “The UK is a very important market for Seabourn and we are honoured to be a brand of choice for vacation for many extraordinary guests from this region.”
