Seabourn expeditions: A new style of ultra-luxury cruising

Seabourn has long been known for its ultra-luxury voyages to the world’s finest destinations. Moving forward, the line is set to redefine what it means to travel in luxury on an expedition cruise.

Last summer, Seabourn Venture, the first expedition ship in the Seabourn fleet, set sail on its maiden cruise. The 264-guest vessel – which will be joined by a sister ship, Seabourn Pursuit, later this year – signifies the beginning of a new era in the operator’s story.

For summer 2023, Seabourn Venture will operate Arctic Expedition cruises, taking in views of rugged mountains, ice-blue glaciers, and lush greenery.

Guests on board will be able to experience magical sights in the likes of Svalbard, Iceland, Greenland, and the Canadian Arctic.

In Iceland, exploration by zodiacs, kayaks and on foot will uncover the wonders of the country, not least its tall, winding fjords, verdant valleys and towering stone sea stacks.

An example itinerary is the 11-Day Ancient Isles and Icelandic Sagas voyage, departing Leith on 24 May 2023. This will call in Seydisfjordur. Grimsey, Siglufjordur, Vigur, and Dynjandi, Iceland, among other destinations.

Greenland, the largest island on earth, sprawling from near the North Pole southward across the Arctic Circle, is a treasure trove of discovery, ideal for a Seabourn expedition itinerary.

Guests can expect to see hidden vistas folded between snow-capped peaks, while navigating through icebergs in zodiacs and kayaks.

Isolated communities are also scattered among the fjords, accessible only by boats or kayaks from the sea, or, in winter, by dogsled.

Departing from 16 July – 12 August this year, the 15-Day Iceland, Greenland and Wild Shores cruise, on Seabourn Venture, includes an experience of the Skjoldungen fjord in Greenland, as well as cruising Prince Christian Sound.

Seabourn’s expedition voyages are truly immersive

The Seabourn expedition story

Seabourn began offering expedition experiences during its first sailing to Antarctica in 2013 led by a highly qualified, world-class expedition team, and those itineraries have been offered every season since.

This success opened the door for the line’s Ventures by Seabourn programme, featuring zodiacs, kayaks, and guided hikes to enhance destinations such as Alaska, Australia and New Zealand, South America, Northern Europe and Greenland.

Designed and built for diverse environments to PC6 polar class standards, both Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit feature a new innovative design, created specifically for the ultra-luxury expedition traveller, including many features that have made Seabourn ships so successful.

In addition, two custom-built, six-seater submarines provide an unforgettable view of the world beneath the ocean’s surface, while the kayaks and 24 zodiacs can accommodate all guests at once, allowing for a truly immersive experience.
