Scenic’s new luxury ship will visit a series of lesser known ports in the Caribbean and South America later this year.

Scenic Eclipse has completed a series of sea trials ahead of its maiden sailing on 15 August 2019. The ship was scheduled to launch back in August 2018 but suffered a series of setbacks due to problems at the Uljanik shipyard.

It will spend six weeks sailing along the North American east coast before embarking on a 15-day Taste of the Caribbean cruise from 7-21 October and then a 13-day Colombia and Panama sailing departing from Miami.

Stops on the Taste of Caribbean cruise include Long Island; Great Inagua Island; the remote Guanaja Island in Honduras, and Half Moon Caye. The sailing departs from Nassau, Bahamas, and disembarks in Miami.

Guests on the Colombia and Panama sailing will visit Key West before heading to Central America. Scenic Eclipse will visit Belize City; Roatan Island, and Isla de Providencia, which is part of Colombia.

Other ports include Costa Rica’s Puerto Limón, where guests will visit the Jaguar Rescue Centre and Sloth Sanctuary, and the San Blas Islands, home to the remote Kuna people.

Scenic Eclipse, which will be captained by James Griffiths, includes and 10 dining options – from Asian Fusion to French fine dining – as well as spa with a gym and separate yoga and Pilates studio.

Guests can also use two six-guest helicopters and one six-guest submarine – known as Scenic Neptune – capable of diving to depths of nearly 1,000 feet. Neptune features internal climate control and a surround sound music system, as well as acrylic spheres constructed from a material with the same refraction index as seawater, meaning it “visually disappears underwater and provides a very open and spacious feeling”, according to Scenic.

Scenic Neptune pilot Remy Izendooren added: “Guests will embark on an awe-inspiring adventure to the underwater world. Volcanic pinnacles, sheer walls, majestic wrecks, a wide diversity of marine life and beautiful reefs lie waiting to be discovered.”
