How to sell: Pre- and post-cruise land tours

Cruise and land tour

Robert Stapley, senior product manager at Titan Travel, talks us through the best ways for agents to sell pre-and post-cruise land tours.

One of the key trends that emerged in Titan’s 2019 Travel Trends Report was customers wanting greater destination immersion when they travel. Shore excursions are perfect for giving a flavour of each port of call, but sometimes having that little bit more time on land gives customers a different perspective and a deeper understanding of that destination.

Our Cruise & Tour holidays are a valuable option for those who are looking for a more in-depth travel experience. Customers get all the benefits of cruising, but with the added bonus of spending extra time exploring on land. It gives them a chance to see iconic sights – the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, for example, or the majestic Canadian Rockies – and to really get a feel for the local culture.

Adding a tour element to a traditional cruise holiday gives customers a superb combination of travel experiences. Touring means uncovering the delights of a destination, travelling in the company of others, making new friends, having new experiences and creating memories to share and relive.

There are countless benefits to touring: expert local guides, the carefree knowledge that the boring nitty-gritty has been taken care of, and no worries about expensive taxi transfers, or finding a hotel in the right location. Customers can just relax and get on with enjoying their holiday to the full.

On our Cruise & Tour holidays a friendly, experienced and knowledgeable tour manager looks after all the logistics, reconfirming any tickets and working out timings. When there’s time at leisure they can recommend places to eat, or nearby sights to see. And if the unexpected happens, as it can do on holiday, they’ll look after all arrangements to ensure everything continues as seamlessly as possible.

Touring itineraries can often be relatively intensive, ensuring customers get the most out of their time, so it’s wonderful to then progress to a cruise. Customers can settle into their chosen cabin (with the benefit of unpacking only once), enjoy the facilities and explore new destinations at a more leisurely pace and from a completely different perspective.
