Celestyal has started a consultation process affecting a “limited number of roles” in the UK and global offices, as well as a review of the Celestyal Travel business, due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East
The line was forced to end its Arabian Gulf season early when the war in Iran broke out at the end of February.
Its two ships, Celestyal Journey and Celestyal Discovery, have been stuck in the region since the start of the conflict. They had been scheduled to reposition to the Mediterranean to begin the line’s summer season in April, but due to reposting challenges, the line has cancelled all April departures.
A spokesperson said: “Celestyal has announced that it has initiated a consultation process affecting a limited number of roles across its UK and global offices, including a review of the Celestyal Travel business, following the temporary suspension of operations.
“These proposed changes represent a limited adjustment relative to the overall size of the business and are part of a measured response to external circumstances.
“Despite these changes, Celestyal remains in a good financial position, with continued support from its shareholders. The business continues to focus on disciplined cost management while maintaining its long-term strategic direction.”
They continued: “The line’s fleet is currently positioned in the Arabian Gulf, with Celestyal Discovery in Dubai and Celestyal Journey in Doha.
“Recent developments, including progress toward a ceasefire in the Middle East, provide increased confidence that operations will resume as planned from May.”
The next planned departures are a three-night Iconic Greek Islands cruise on Celestyal Discovery on 1 May and a seven-night Heavenly Greece, Italy and Croatia sailing on Celestyal Journey on 2 May.
Celestyal said it is committed to supporting affected employees through the consultation process and will continue to work closely with its partners and stakeholders during this period.
