Amadeus River Cruises Portugal Douro

Amadeus River Cruises has announced plans to launch its first-ever vessel on Portugal’s Douro River

The hybrid-powered Amadeus Douro is set to debut on the river in 2028 and will sail between March and November.

“We are delighted to bring the Amadeus experience to the Douro, one of Europe’s most beautiful and culturally rich regions,” said Corina Lueftner, head of sales at Amadeus River Cruises.

“The Douro Valley has become an increasingly popular destination, and with Amadeus Douro we are excited to offer our partners and guests a truly immersive way to explore its extraordinary scenery, wine heritage and historic towns.”

The vessel will accommodate 111 guests in 54 staterooms and two suites, most featuring drop-down panoramic windows or private balconies. There will also be spacious public areas, an open sun deck with a swimming pool, a lounge area, bar and the line’s Café Vienna.

Culinary experiences will highlight the flavours of Portugal, with gourmet cuisine complemented by locally sourced wines. The ship will operate a collection of itineraries along the Douro, including round-trip journeys from Porto. Further details about the ship’s design, onboard features and inaugural itineraries will be revealed in the coming months.

Earlier this year, the line confirmed plans to launch Amadeus Mira on the Rhine and Danube in 2027. The vessel will accommodate 158 guests in 12 suites with balconies and 67 cabins featuring panoramic windows. Mira also includes a restaurant, a sun deck with an outdoor pool and bar, a fitness room and a river terrace. The ship will operate with hybrid propulsion and a heat recovery system.
