Virgin Voyages has hired two UK-based sales managers, tripling the size of its team in this country.

Gemma Smith will take up her position on 8 February, supporting the southern region. In addition, Sarah-Jane Walker will lead sales efforts across the north from 21 March.

Smith joins from Virgin Holidays, while Walker was recently a sales manager with Princess Cruises.

Director of global sales for Virgin Voyages Shane Riley said: “We set out to find sales rockstars who can challenge industry norms and provide exceptional support for our First Mates and I think it’s fair to say we have ticked every box with Sarah-Jane and Gemma.

“Their proven track record of success and enchanting personalities made them the perfect fit for us and I cannot wait to welcome them to the Virgin Voyages crew.”

Agents, known as First Mates by Virgin, can start booking through the line’s online platform – FirstMates.com – as of 14 February.

Virgin Voyages’ first ship, Scarlet Lady, launches in 2020, followed by two others in 2021 and 2022.

The line has also signed a €700 million agreement with shipyard Fincantieri for the construction of a fourth new-build ship.
