Seabourn announces cruise cancellations and update on Seabourn Venture

Seabourn, Carnival Corporation’s ultra-luxury cruise line, has announced additional cancellations for three of its cruise ships.

The cancellations come as a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic, and the pause of global cruise operations.

The announcement applies to Seabourn Ovation,  Encore and Quest, with operations now only due to restart in 2021.

Seabourn Ovation will resume operations on 3 January 2021, Encore on 6 January 2021 and Quest on 10 May 2021.

When she does sail again, Seabourn Quest will operate the line’s 2021 and 2022 Antarctic experience. Due to its redeployment in Antarctica, the line has cancelled all of the ship’s Panama Canal voyages scheduled for November 7 – December 19 2021.

Along with the cancellations, the luxury line has also revised the delivery date for its new purpose-built expedition ship, Seabourn Venture.

The ship was scheduled to launch in early 2021, but has now been pushed back until 1 December 2021.

The delay was caused because of shipyard closures at Genoa shipyard T. Mariotti earlier in the year, due to Covid-19. This resulted in disruption to the construction and finishing of the ship.

Seabourn Venture will debut with a series of first-ever Norwegian Winter voyages, where there are chances to see the Northern Lights.

Details on the revised inaugural sailing for Seabourn Venture are currently being finalised, and should be announced in October.

Guests currently booked on the inaugural voyage for Seabourn Venture will be offered the opportunity to sail on the new inaugural itinerary Norwegian Winter itinerary, with booking opening to affected guests before general sale.

President of Seabourn Josh Leibowitz said: “Our utmost priority is the health, safety and well-being of our guests, crew and the people in destinations. We recognise the long lead time for planning an ultra-luxury experience and with that in mind, we proactively announce the cancellation of these additional voyages.

“We are working very closely with science and medical advisors as well as our source and destination markets to develop protocols for the ultimate return to operations.”
