Riviera Travel has announced the two Godmothers chosen for the christenings of the company’s two new 5-star river cruise ships, following a competition open to agents in the UK and Ireland.

Christina Astill from Go-Cruise has been selected as Godmother to the MS Emily Brontë and Tracey Scales from Travel Counsellors will be MS Thomas Hardy’s Godmother.

The ladies were chosen at random from hundreds of entries received from agents and will be guests of honour to christen the ships in an official ceremony in Amsterdam later this month. They will be joined by Riviera Travel’s senior management team and around 50 VIP agent guests.

“When I called Christina and Tracey to break the news they were both very excited. We decided it would be a refreshing change for two travel agents rather than celebrities to have the honour of becoming Godmothers to our new ships, in a competition that all ladies who entered had an equal chance of winning. After all, agents have played a huge part in our significant growth in European river cruising over the last few years,” said Joseph Grimley, Head of Agency Sales. “It promises to be a fantastic day where guests will have a unique preview of our new flag-ship river cruise product, while enjoying a champagne reception, sumptuous lunch on-board, and of course the all-important christening ceremony itself.”
