Former Scenic Group sales director Joseph Grimley has returned to the travel industry after a short hiatus as Fred Holidays’ new business development manager
The announcement follows last week’s news that Riviera Travel’s Paul Mellon joined the operator, meaning the firm’s BDM team has doubled from two to four in the space of a couple of weeks.
Grimley, who has spent the last couple of years away from travel, previously led Scenic’s trade sales function with a focus on strategy, marketing, commercials and sales. Prior to that, he held various sales roles with Riviera Travel and Page & Moy Travel Group.
Within his new role, which he will take up on 12 February 2024, Grimley’s focus will be on supporting the company’s strategic growth and GSA partners including Amadeus River Cruises.
Fred Holidays role ‘the perfect fit’, says ex-Scenic sales lead Grimley
Reporting into Laura Wilson, Fred Holidays’ head of business development, he will work with the business development team to optimise new business opportunities through active accounts, expand distribution reach and increase brand awareness.
Grimley said: “I’m very excited to be returning to the industry that I’ve loved for more than 30 years. I’ve missed it. Fred. Holidays’ incredible portfolio of products, along with their pedigree and people, really appeals and is the perfect fit for my experience.”
Tricia Birmingham, Fred Holidays’ director of tour operations, added: “We are delighted to welcome Joseph who has over 35 years’ experience in many specific sectors of the travel industry, most notably cruise and river.”
