Guests can wander the narrow cobblestone streets at their own pace, stopping along the way at remarkable museums or 1930’s era patio cafe.

Then there’s Motril in Spain, which offers relaxing sands at the Playa de Torrenueva, while the Cueva Del Capitan gives cruisers the chance to join a guided hike. Recommend a stop by the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza to see a 17th-century church and the pre-industrial Sugar Cane Museum where visitors can learn about the region’s staple crop.

Back onboard, the 2,290-guest Norwegian Dawn® offers a laid-back and intimate cruising experience. Dining options include Los Lobos Cantina, a sophisticated Mexican restaurant, while The Cellars, a Michael Mondavi Family Wine Bar, is the perfect spot for wine tasting.

Elsewhere, Norwegian Star® will sail 11-day Northern Europe cruises from May-September 2026, ideal for fans of cooler climates and sweeping vistas. Prices start from £1,505pp** for an inside cabin.

Departing from Southampton and calling in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Bergen, Alesund, Akureyri and Isajordur, this cruise concludes with an overnight in Reykjavik, where avid photographers can snap visually remarkable terrain, lava flows, hot springs and unspoilt nature.

Closer to home in Edinburgh, it’s advised guests pack their walking shoes for a stroll along the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, with the chance to savour the city’s marvellous Georgian architecture on the way.

At this point, a trip to Norwegian Star’s® Mandara Spa®for a dip in the therapy pool would be well-earnt. Or guests can enjoy a hot stone massage and those travelling with kids can make use of the youth clubs and arcade.

Meanwhile, Norwegian Epic® will sail 7-day Mediterranean itineraries from Rome (Civitavecchia) featuring calls in Salerno, Messina (Sicily), Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Nice/Monaco (Villefranche), Provence (Marseille) and Barcelona. With departures from May through October 2026, prices for an Inside cabin start from £670 pp**, based on a 25 October sailing.

The history of Salerno is as rich and vibrant as its surrounding landscapes, perfect for budding historians. The site of ancient settlements the city was once home to sprawling empires and was the site of Medieval Europe’s first medical school.
