About Melk
Regarded as one of Europe’s most spectacular baroque monasteries, Melk’s Benedictine abbey occupies a dramatic spot 42m above the river.
Built between 1702 and 1736, the vast complex is more akin to a palace with an imperial corridor lined with portraits of Austrian rulers and a huge library with stunning painted ceilings. Active passengers can go on a 20-mile guided bike tour from Melk to Dürnstein, or in reverse, and meet the ship when it docks,
