About Dürnstein
Located on a sweeping bend on the Danube, Dürnstein’s most photographed sight is the blue and white abbey.
It was here that Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned after returning from the crusades and it is worth climbing the rocky path to the ruins of the castle for spectacular views over the river.
Afterwards take a breather in one of the many cafes and try a multitude of dishes made with locally-grown apricots including dumplings, cakes, chocolate and brandy.
