Coronavirus: P&O Cruises’ president promises to look after guests

Iona sets a precedent for a new type of holiday, says P&O Cruises boss Paul Ludlow

P&O Cruises’ president Paul Ludlow has promised to look after guests during the coronavirus pandemic in a message to the public.

In his message, Ludlow asks passengers to show some patience and assures them that plans for the resumption of P&O sailings are underway.

He said: “I want to assure you of one thing though. P&O Cruises will look after you, our guests. These are not just empty words.

“A travel company is nothing without the loyalty of its customers and P&O Cruises is nothing without the loyalty of its guests, both guests who have been cruising with us for many years and guests who have yet to sail with us but have made the decision to book a holiday with us in the future.”

On 16 March, the cruise line was one of four Carnival brands who announced a temporary suspension of all cruises, lasting until mid-April.

P&O Cruises said it will provide a 125 per cent future cruise credit for passengers affected by the suspension.

This credit will be applied automatically to their guest account for use on a P&O Cruises holiday departing before the end of March 2022.

“Everyone has worries – whether that is job security and employment, caring for friends and family, or the various other issues which consume us every day, everything is magnified at the moment as we are restrained from our usual routines,” added Ludlow.

“As a business it is also a time of stress and concern. We have to look after our crew, when flight restrictions are making this very hard; our shoreside colleagues, who are working out the logistics of itineraries ad how to get everyone safely back home or to the UK and also our travel agent partners and suppliers, upon whose dedication we rely on so heavily.”
