Silversea’s Peter Shanks announces retirement
Silversea Cruises managing director of UK & EMEA Peter Shanks has announced his retirement after a 45-year career in the travel industry, with the line’s Andreas Nuessel confirmed as his successor
A highly respected leader in the industry, Shanks has led Silversea’s growth in the UK and Ireland over the last seven years, including transformational growth with the two new Nova class ships, Silver Nova and Silver Ray. He was recently inducted into the CLIA Hall of Fame.
The luxury cruise line has revealed Andreas Nuessel as Shanks’ successor, who himself has been managing director, Europe since 2020 where he has helped increase Silversea’s market share and presence in the territory
Nuessel will work alongside Shanks until the end of Q2, after which he will fully step into the role, leading the strategy for Silversea in the UK and EMEA and reporting into Barbara Biffi, senior vice president of global sales.
Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea, congratulated Nuessel on his new role and Shanks on his invaluable contributions to the brand and the travel industry, which have included being chief commercial officer of Carnival UK and president & managing director of Cunard.
