Australian-based expedition cruise line Aurora Expeditions has appointed James Turner as its new business development manager, based in London.
Turner has a strong background in expedition cruising and his working life to date has taken him from the Swiss Alps to Antarctica and most recently Svalbard and Greenland, expanding his knowledge and reinforcing his commitment to the polar regions.
Turner will be responsible for initiating training and sales support with particular emphasis on tour operators, travel agencies and independent travel consultants.
He joins the team alongside director of sales for the UK and Europe, Craig Upshall, who commented:
“The appointment is a reflection of the rising trend for expedition trips to the polar regions. James’ role is crucial to the travel professional who is keen to be educated and trained to select the right ship and voyage for their clients’.
Aurora Expeditions launched its latest expedition cruise ship, Greg Mortimer, last month (October 2019) and the demand for the small ship has already been immense, according to the cruise line. Greg Mortimer is being followed by a second ship in 2021.
Managing director of Aurora Expeditions, Robert Halfpenny, also commented on the expansion of the team:
“For more than 27 years we’ve been driven by a pioneering spirit, and we’ve always chosen the best people to help achieve this vision both on and off the ship.
“We warmly welcome James to our team and look forward to raising the standard for expedition cruising globally, while continuing to provide the authentic, small group adventures that we are known for”.
