Two A-Rosa river ships receive Green Award certification

A-Rosa River Cruises: Aqua

Two of A-Rosa River Cruises’ ships have received the prestigious Green Award certification.

A-Rosa Aqua, which serves the international market, and A-Rosa Brava, which serves the German-speaking market, achieved particularly high scores in the safety and environmental protection categories.

A-Rosa River Cruises maintains a strong focus on sustainability across its entire fleet and is striving toward further ships qualifying for this highly recognised award in the near future.

Established in 1994, the Green Award programme is a voluntary assessment certification that encourages cleaner and safer maritime shipping.

Under the inland shipping category, river cruise lines must meet a wide range of criteria relating to the engines and technical equipment on board, demonstrating that they are dedicated to delivering high-quality safety and environmental standards.

Criteria such as shore power connections and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment systems are considered to be of particular importance.

Gaining certification for ships in its fleet is a key component of A-Rosa’s comprehensive sustainability strategy going forward.

Other elements include the general reduction of resources such as gas, water and oil, the further development of efficient energies and working with ports and destinations on a sustainable infrastructure.

Commenting on the awards, A-Rosa River Cruises director fleet, André Mahr, said: “We are delighted that two of our ships received accreditation and are working hard to further lead innovation in our industry, whilst also continuing with the improvement of clean technologies and the optimisation of safety measures.”

Rival cruise line AmaWaterways was recently awarded the certification for 18 of its cruise ships.
