Google searches for “solo cruise” reached the highest level in more than five years last month, marking a 129 per cent increase

The findings come after Croatia Cruises analysed worldwide Google searches for the term over a five-year period, with the highest peak occurring on 25 May 2025.

Anastasia Tretjakova, senior travel advisor and sales manager, said: “It’s clear from the findings that solo travellers are opting for a hassle-free way to visit their bucket list destinations.

“Safety can be a huge concern when it comes to exploring the world alone, but thanks to the controlled setting and 24/7 staff that cruises offer, solo travellers are given the peace of mind they need so that they can enjoy their trip with little worry.”

According to Tretjakova, solo travellers often search for activities to do while abroad, which cruises can offer “trustworthy excursions” at each port, as well as activities on deck.

“Another aspect to consider is the flexibility with dining. As a solo traveller, there may be times when you wish to eat alone, while on some days, you might like to eat with others,” she adds.

“Many cruise lines give you the option to do both, but others will select specific dining times and even assign seating – so, if you hope to mix it up during your trip, make sure the cruise you opt for doesn’t keep you restricted to a set schedule.”

Earlier this year a survey from cruise.co.uk revealed that solo travellers make up five per cent of the cruise market.

The findings, which were drawn from a survey of more than 8,000 cruise.co.uk and seascanner.co.uk customers, also found that solo cruisers are “highly likely” to recommend a sailing, with 70 per cent stating they would encourage friends, family or colleagues to embark on a solo voyage.

When it comes to booking decisions, solo cruisers have similar priorities compared to those sailing with companions.
