Hi, Lizzie! What’s your favourite thing about performing for a cruise audience?Â
The fact that they are all strangers, in that many of them won’t have heard or seen me before, and so the need for excellent communication, engagement and entertainment is turned up to 10! I love the challenge that, ultimately, they are onboard to have a fantastic time and that we as entertainers are a very important part of this.
How would you describe your act to someone who hasn’t seen it before? Â
There’s something for everyone, from Baroque to Rock, and for those who aren’t sure about classical violin, I am proud of the versatile and fun way I reimagine classics and add in wonderful music from jazz, world, and folk. It’s a real musical journey. The singing is always a fun extra bonus for my audiences as they love the fact I can do both so well.
What sets Cunard’s entertainment offering apart from other cruise lines?Â
I think the level of sophistication and tradition combined with forward-thinking modern approaches are unique. The history of the company is also so special and adds to the feeling when on board. I also think the range of what’s on offer across the entertainment is incredibly impressive and ticks so many boxes for different passengers.
What does it mean to be one of the performers for such an historic travel brand?Â
Being British I always feel proud. My grandparents used to talk about the Queen Elizabeth 2 and they would be so proud of me if they were alive to see my show onboard. It’s always comforting also as there’s a feeling that this is really the top end of stage management /production.
What does a normal day look like for you onboard a Cunard cruise?Â
It really depends on the day. I often travel with my son and nanny so we might drop him off at the kids’ club (he absolutely loves it there!) and then I will go and workout in the gym before going to practice where I organise my music for my shows.
I usually practice backstage in the theatre, which is a brilliant place full of amazing costumes. Then back out for a delicious coffee, and then if we are in port, I might pop out with my son for an hour or two to see what’s out there.
I tend to play each day by ear, but if it’s a show day I will spend it onboard preparing. I try to limit my afternoon tea treat to once per voyage, otherwise I would not fit into my gig dresses!
