Silversea celebrated 10 years of expedition cruising with a two-day voyage from London to Dublin.
Departing on 3 June on board the Silver Cloud – exactly a decade after the company’s very first expedition journey, which sailed under Tower Bridge for Svalbard – guests were treated to a weekend of luxurious dining and service alongside the likes of Manfredi Lefebvre, Silversea’s chairman, and Roberto Martinoli, CEO of the company.
Lefebvre said: “We are delighted to be celebrating this important milestone. I am glad to see that my vision has been successfully realised and we are now recognised for our destination leadership.
“Since the launch of our expedition itineraries, we have connected people with the world’s most spectacular landscapes and cultures, and, in the process, we have fostered respect and greater care for our planet and its inhabitants. I am very proud of my team and our mission. We will continue to scout new destinations to bring innovation to the world of expedition cruising.”
Some of these destinations include a planned crossing of the Northeast Passage, as well as sailings to the Bay of Bengal, the Russian Far East, Antarctica, and Australia’s Kimberley Coast.
Shortly after passing under Tower Bridge, those on the Silver Cloud were surprised when the ship crossed paths with Silver Spirit – Silversea’s recently lengthened and renovated ship – in Greenwich, London.
A video message from HSH Albert II, Sovereign Prince of Monaco, who cut the ribbon in Monte Carlo during the naming ceremony for Silversea’s first expedition ship in 2008, was also shown to guests.
To wrap up the celebrations, guests were given a guided tour of the city of Dublin.
