Seabourn and Holland America Line have announced changes to Alaska and Canada programmes due to the order from the Canadian Transport Ministry that closes Canadian ports and waters to passenger vessels.
Seabourn’s cancellation of its 2021 Alaska/British Columbia departures applies to 19 voyages on Seabourn Odyssey in summer 2021 between Vancouver, Canada and Juneau, including one Pacific Coast voyage at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, HAL has extended its pause of operations to now include all sailings that depart from or conclude in a Canadian port in 2021. This includes several Alaska, three Canada/New England and two Pacific Coastal cruises. It also includes all Land+Sea Journeys.
However, HAL’s Alaska cruises departing from mid-May and sailing roundtrip from Seattle, Washington, have not been cancelled at this time. The line said that “discussions are underway with Canadian and United States government authorities to try to find a path forward to preserve these sailings”.
Fellow Carnival brand Princess Cruises has also announced changes to its Alaska and Canada schedule.
Seabourn president Josh Leibowitz said: “Our highest priorities are compliance, environmental protection and the health, safety and well-being of our guests, crew and the people in destinations we visit.
“We have heard from many guests and they are eager to travel, seeing positive developments starting to take hold that will eventually lead to our return to service.”
Holland America Line president Gus Antorcha added: “Holland America Line, in alliance with our entire industry, is optimistic for the resumption of cruising around North America and worldwide.
“However, we must be practical in our approach by acknowledging the limitations put in place by the current Canadian order that requires us to cancel select sailings. We thank our guests for their patience and understanding and know that they, like us, are eager to see cruising begin again soon.”
Seabourn said it will automatically rebook guests to a comparable 2022 voyage at the rate paid plus current amenities, although guests can request a full refund.
Guests booked on HAL’s Alaska and Canada/New England cancelled departures that are paid in full will also be moved to an equivalent cruise or Land+Sea Journey in 2022 at the fare paid for 2021. Guests who prefer a full refund must notify the line no later than 31 March 2021.
