Royal Caribbean has confirmed the order of two more Icon class ships
They will be the sixth and seventh vessels in the class when they enter service, scheduled for 2029 and 2030, respectively.
Royal Caribbean currently has two Icon class ships in service, Icon of the Seas (pictured) and Star of the Seas, with third vessel Legend of the Seas scheduled to depart on its maiden voyage at the start of July this year.
Fourth ship Hero of the Seas and an as yet unnamed fifth ship are expected to join the fleet in 2027 and 2028.
All the vessels are being built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and are renowned as the largest cruise ships in the world, each with a capacity for 7,600 passengers.
Jason Liberty, chairman and chief executive of Royal Caribbean Group, said: “The Icon class reflects our bold creativity and engineering excellence that continues to define what a vacation can be.
“Through our long-standing partnership with Meyer Turku, the Finnish government and the strong Finnish maritime cluster, we are reimagining the industry for decades to come while also delivering meaningful economic impact for Finland.”
Casimir Lindholm, chief executive of Meyer Turku, added: “The order of sixth and seventh Icon class vessels is a significant recognition of Meyer Turku and the Finnish maritime industry’s talent and expertise.
“This milestone represents an important step forward in our partnership with Royal Caribbean Group to develop the shipbuilding sector over the next decade and beyond.”
