Royal Caribbean Group brands have confirmed an extension to suspension of cruises until 15 September.

The news follows CLIA’s revelation that the association’s ocean-going cruise line members will suspended operations from US ports until the same date.

Royal Caribbean’s announcement does not include sailings from China, which are currently suspended to the end of July, and sailings to Bermuda, which are suspended through to 31 October.

In a statement, RCL Group said: “Given ongoing global public health circumstances, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has decided to extend the suspension of most sailings through September 15, 2020, excluding sailings from China, suspended through the end of July, and sailings to Bermuda, suspended through October 31, 2020.

“We are working with our guests and travel partners to address this disruption to their holidays and are genuinely sorry for their inconvenience.”

The extension does not apply to Silversea, which intends to resume operations in July.

In terms of Royal Caribbean International, there have been additional dates and information released:

  • The drydock for Explorer of the Seas will take place in August. As a result, August 2020 sailings on Explorer of the Seas are cancelled
  • A number of ex-Denmark sailings have been cancelled due to the closure of the city’s cruise terminals. Sailings now cancelled include Jewel of the Seas’ 8 August 16 August and 23 August departures, and Brilliance of the Seas’ 21 August voyage

When announcing its extension, CLIA said in statement: “The current No Sail Order issued by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will expire on 24 July, and although we had hoped that cruise activity could resume as soon as possible after that date, it is increasingly clear that more time will be needed to resolve barriers to resumption in the US.

“We have therefore decided to further extend our suspension of operations from US ports until 15 September. The additional time will also allow us to consult with the CDC on measures that will be appropriate for the eventual resumption of cruise operations.”
