Princess Cruises showcases Sun Princess family activity zone

Princess Cruises, Sun Princess

Princess Cruises has said that its first Sphere-class ship, Sun Princess, will feature the “most engaging family activity zone” in the line’s history.

Park19 will debut on Sun Princess when the vessel launches in February 2024.

Located on the top decks, it will feature nine activities for the entire family, including the first Rollglider on a cruise ship, called Sea Breeze, which will take guests “high above to enjoy panoramic views of the ocean”, the line said.

Using an overhead track, guests will be seated and harnessed to the electric ride, reaching speeds of up to 11 mph during the 60-90 second experience.

Park19 will also feature a climbing structure, called Coastal Climb, the Lookout, an open-air observation deck at the highest point available to passengers, and the Net, where guests will be harnessed above deck 19 and challenged to trek across unstable bridges, a z-shaped balance beam and climb cargo nets.

The Infinite Horizon has been described by Princess as ideal “for those who love heights”, with leaning tilt walls cantilevered over the side of the ship so guests can peer out from deck 19 and look down to deck nine and beyond.

A hammock area, splash zone, jogging track and games such as ping pong and shuffleboard will also be available.

Princess Cruises offering ‘something for everyone’

Additional family-centric offerings will also be found in the Youth & Teen Centres, such as Firefly Park, for youngsters ages six months to seven years old, and Neon Grove for tweens and The Underground for teenagers.

Princess Cruises president John Padgett said: “Park19, as the name suggests, is a new space created for all our guests, including activities to bring together multi-generational travel families in a location with spectacular views and fun outdoor activities for all.

“The new area was tailored based on guest feedback for more family and group activities spaces.

“These expanded offerings give younger cruisers plenty to explore and enjoy aboard Sun Princess, creating an even more family friendly experience with something for everyone regardless of age.”

Princess recently revealed that its second Sphere-class ship will be called Star Princess.

The ship – the line’s second to be powered by liquefied natural gas – will operate an inaugural season of Mediterranean voyages when it launches in August 2025.
