Discovery Princess – the sixth and final Royal-class ship in the Princess Cruises fleet – has set sail on its maiden cruise.
The ship departed the Port of Los Angeles on 27 March for its Mexican Riviera itinerary.
Discovery Princess will sail the Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages until 24 April 2022, when it will then head up the Pacific coast to begin a season of seven-night Alaska cruises from Seattle.
The line’s president John Padgett said: “Cruising is back and the elegant Discovery Princess showcases the many reasons why travellers should take a cruise now.
“We also recognise and applaud the ship’s company, who will work tirelessly to deliver memorable cruise vacations to all who sail on this magnificent cruise ship.”
Princess Cruises planning naming ceremony
The 3,660-guest Discovery Princess was built at the Fincantieri shipyard and delivered to the cruise line in January this year.
Earlier in March, it was revealed that Princess hotel general manager Terri Cybuliak will take on the role of madrina for the ship.
Speaking at the time, Padgett said: “Terri embodies the Princess Cruises spirit and culture of being a team player, forging strong relationships, learning from her colleagues and mentoring her team to perform at their highest level.”
A traditional naming ceremony for Discovery Princess will take place at the Port of Los Angeles on 29 April.
