Discovery Princess has been delivered to Princess Cruises in a ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.
The sixth and final Royal-class ship – which completed sea trials back in December 2021 – takes the number of Medallion ships in the Princess fleet to 15.
Discovery Princess will depart Italy and make its way to the Port of Los Angeles to sail on a series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages from 27 March to 24 April 2022.
It will then head up the Pacific coast to begin a season of seven-night Alaska cruises from Seattle.
Princess Cruises president John Padgett said: “Today marks a significant milestone for Princess Cruises as we officially take ownership of the spectacular Discovery Princess.
“We extend our immense gratitude to our long-time and trusted partners at Fincantieri, the shipbuilders of all six of our Royal-class vessels with Discovery Princess, and look forward to welcoming our first guests to experience the beauty of the ship when they embark in just a few weeks.”
Discovery Princess: The latest Medallion ship
The 3,660-guest Discovery Princess shares many of the same aspects as its sister ships – Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess.
It features Medallion technology – a small device that enables expedited contactless boarding, locating friends and family anywhere on the ship, as well as enhanced on-demand services.
Guests will be able to experience 270-degree views from the balconies in the Sky Suites and see new West End-style production shows in the Princess Theatre.
Princess added that the ship features “the latest technologies” to reduce fuel consumption, treat wastewater, and support its overall environmental compliance efforts.
