Princess Cruises has cancelled new ship Sun Princess‘ inaugural 10-day voyage from Barcelona on 8 February
It comes after the line and Italian ship builder Fincantieri mutually agreed to delay the delivery of the Sphere-class vessel.
“We understand that this news is disappointing, and we share in that disappointment,” said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises.
“We recognise the anticipation that surrounded this sailing, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this cancellation causes.”
Guests who were booked on of the inaugural voyage will receive a full refund of the cruise fare along with any additional onboard services that were pre-purchased, as well as a 50% future cruise credit (FCC) that can be used on a future Princess voyage.
Princess Cruises to protect travel agent commissions
Guests also will receive up to $200 per person for change fees related to air travel plans and Princess is protecting travel agent commissions.
Earlier this week, the line confirmed it will host a record-breaking 3,000 agents on board its vessels in 2024 as it looks to strengthen its ties with the trade.
Ushering in a new era for the line’s sales operation, recently appointed UK and Europe sales director Hayley Moore will look to put Princess front of mind for agents ahead of what is tipped to be a busy year for the brand.
