Ocean advocate and protagonist in the Emmy Award-winning Netflix documentary Chasing Coral, Richard Vevers, has joined the roster of inspirational speakers at this year’s Expedition Cruise Network (ECN) Conference
Avivah Wittenberg-Cox, author of Thriving to 100 and a consultant in demographic change and gender rebalancing, will also speak at the event taking place from 30 September-1 October.
Vevers, who is also director of Room 71 at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), will speak about the independent ocean science organisation’s mission to flip beliefs and accelerate science to find solutions to global issues.
So far it has resulted in more than $200 million in funding for ocean science and conservation initiatives. As a Fellow of The Explorer’s Club, he has embarked on numerous remote diving expeditions to take Google Street View underwater and carry out the first comprehensive global survey of the world’s coral reefs.
Wittenberg-Cox, meanwhile, will provide the ECN Conference audience with insights into how older consumers look, tackle and aspire to adventure and tourism.
Jack Carter, Real Response Media group editor, cruise, will host a panel discussion with industry experts looking at expedition cruising trends and insight.
Akvile Marozaite, CEO of the ECN, said: “I am thrilled to welcome our two eminent inspirational speakers to the ECN Conference 2025.
“Speaking to an ocean-based industry, Richard Vevers will provide hope and insights into how ocean-based science can help reverse the impacts of climate change on some of the world’s most fragile ecosystems, while Avivah Wittenberg-Cox will offer wisdom and insights on how our industry can grab the opportunities of changing worldwide demographics.”
The Expedition Cruise Network Conference will be held at Glaziers Hall, London on Tuesday 30 September and Wednesday 1 October. Each day will consist of business conference sessions followed by one-to-one meetings between expedition cruise line operators and retailers.
On Tuesday 30 September, the ECN Gala Awards will be held on board the Dixie Queen, a Thames Luxury Charter between 6.45 pm and 10 pm.
