MSC Cruises’ private island resort will bring something “new and unique to our Caribbean itineraries”, according to the line’s CEO.

Ocean Cay, which will welcome its first guests on 9 November, has been designed as the ultimate getaway destination and will feature seven beaches, the Great Lagoon, and a host of entertainment spots and excursion activities.

MSC Seaside, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Divina and MSC Armonia will call at the island, located 65 miles south of Miami.

Gianni Onorato said: “Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve will bring something new and unique to our Caribbean itineraries from Miami and Havana, and is set to become a truly memorable highlight for our guests.

“We have created a guest experience that complements the breath-taking natural beauty of this remarkable part of the Caribbean. There was no need for us to build extensively on an island that already had the ingredients of a natural paradise.

“However we have undertaken extensive work to clean-up the island, removing tons of historic industrial waste and helping to return the beaches and the entire 64 square miles of protected waters surrounding the island to their pristine state.”

Guests will be able to discover the waters around the island through snorkel safaris, kayak tours and paddle boarding, while the Family Explorer club will offer fun activities for all the family.

In addition, Ocean Cay guests will get the chance to rent a smaller private island – close to the main body of land – for the day.

Ships calling at Ocean Cay will remain in port long in to evening.

As for food and drink, there will be a number of dining options on the island, including buffets and food carts, as well as a range of unique bars.

Island shopping will also be a key part of Ocean Cay, with a concept that has been “designed to reflect the overall vision of the island with four distinct shopping areas”.
