HX Expeditions to host 400 agents on largest-ever fam trip

HX Expeditions will mark its 130th anniversary by hosting what it claims will be the largest fam trip in expedition-travel history

From 5-7 May 2026, 400 agents across the UK and Europe will join a two-night training voyage from Hamburg to Heligoland on a programme featuring shore landings, wildlife encounters, hands-on science sessions, and presentations.

The voyage will take place aboard the hybrid-powered MS Fridtjof Nansen, featuring a Science Centre, launch zones and indoor-outdoor observation areas.

“Our 130th birthday year felt like the perfect moment to thank our agents for their ongoing support,” said Mark Walter, sales director, Northern Europe. “By inviting them on this Heligoland programme, we’re giving them a clear and genuine insight into the way we travel and what truly sets HX apart.”

To mirror the rhythm of a full expedition day, HX will make use of the main island of Heligoland and the offshore islet of Düne, where guests will be able to take an ice plunge, complete with an official certificate to mark the achievement.

Guided activities and simulated operational drills will demonstrate how typical landings work in polar regions. Expert-led nature walks will take participants to the island’s bird cliffs and its resident seal colony, while on the main island guests will explore Hummerbuden, along with museums, restaurants and the maritime harbour scene.

The onboard programme will feature a series of sustainability-focused talks alongside expert-led workshops that highlight Heligoland’s natural environment and cultural heritage. Guests will also take part in hands-on science activities that demonstrate the kind of research typically carried out at sea on an HX Expeditions vessel, from collecting samples to examining and analysing them under the microscope.

Attendees will also be able to experience the 1896 Cabin, a limited-edition installation available exclusively aboard MS Fridtjof Nansen throughout the 130th anniversary year.

“Reaching our 130-year milestone in 2026 is an opportunity to strengthen the relationships we already have, while also introducing HX to new partners who share our passion for exploration,” added Nathaniel Sherborne, SVP and MD, EMEA/ANZ and global sales enablement. “We look forward to welcoming agents from the UK and Europe to experience our approach first-hand.”
