Holland America Line offers guests the ultimate classic cruise holiday to the Caribbean.
The Caribbean, with its white-sand beaches and crystal blue waters, lures cruise passengers year after year.
A cruise to the region with Holland America Line comes in the surroundings of elegant lounges, spacious staterooms, restaurants serving gourmet cuisine, state of the art leisure amenities and live music – the perfect accompaniments to a Caribbean voyage.
One area where Holland America Line stands out is through its itineraries to a number of the less-visited islands, such as Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire and Grenada.
Spoilt for choice in the Caribbean
Holland America Line’s Caribbean voyages range from seven to 14 nights, and the line also runs what it calls a Collector Cruise, a special itinerary combining two shorter cruises with no repeat calls.
Itineraries include voyages to the southern, western or eastern Caribbean, with some visiting the famed Panama Canal. The 48-mile waterway, which divides two continents and connects two oceans, has been dubbed one of the seven wonders of the modern world.
Holland America Line was one of the first to foresee how iconic it would be as a cruise destination, with the line having planned a series of itineraries featuring the Panama Canal for 2022.
Travel agents should emphasise the many itineraries available, from a 10 or 11-night Sunfarer voyage, which combines southern Caribbean islands with a day cruising Gatun Lake, to a 14-21 night itinerary featuring a full transit of the canal.
Moreover, the line’s 14-17 night Panama Canal and Central American cruise, departing San Diego, treats guests to a dramatic start, with explorations of the Mexican Riviera and Central America on the agenda.
Guests can stroll through Puerto Vallarta’s lively malecón, lined with trendy restaurants, boutique shops and impressive public art; meet a Maya weaver in Puerto Quetzal who still spins ancient stories on a backstrap loom; hear tales of the early conquistadores in colonial León, Nicaragua, or zip-line through a rain forest in Puerto Caldera.
Immersive experiences and exploring Half Moon Cay
Holland America Line’s immersive destination programme, Explorations Central (EXC), offers guests valuable insights and tips from local experts, interactive activities and cultural encounters.
EXC provides a unique way for guests to understand and appreciate the most fascinating corners of the globe through a variety of experiences — whether it’s photographing wildlife in Costa Rica, sampling tacos in Mexico or studying the engineering complexities of the Panama Canal.
Guests who want to learn more about their destinations can attend EXC talks and gain insights about everything from proper etiquette to the best tours.
The cherry on top of many of Holland America Line’s Caribbean itineraries is a visit to Half Moon Cay, the line’s own award-winning private island in the Bahamas, which celebrates 25 years in 2022.
The majority of the 2,400-acre land is a nature reserve, with only three per cent of it classed as developed. Guests can enjoy miles of pristine beaches and activities such as horseback riding in the surf, snorkelling, sailing, paddle boarding, and kayaking.
