A new cruise agency which secured seven-figure revenues within its first five months of trading has set its sights on becoming a leading name in travel. Will Payne reports.
After years of working in the cruise industry, Wael Seliman identified a gap in the market for a new agency which “focussed on the excitement” of booking a cruise.
“Cruise Monks was born out of a deep belief that booking a cruise should be exciting and full of value, not overwhelming or transactional,” Seliman tells Cruise Trade News.
“After years in the cruise industry, I saw a gap in the market for a company that focuses on unique itineraries, tailored service, and huge value. Our goal is simple, to become the go-to name for travellers seeking unforgettable cruises with exceptional value, delivered with genuine care and expertise.”
This vision has propelled Seliman and Cruise Monks to an impressive first five months of trading. With an initial investment of only £2,300 in November 2024, the call centre and online retailer hit seven-figure revenues by April.
“It’s a milestone that’s both humbling and exciting,” Seliman adds. “The response from customers has been phenomenal, and close industry partners have been incredibly supportive. The traction we’ve gained this early confirms that our approach is working.”
Cruise Trade News’ Annual Report found that if money was no object, 44 per cent of those who have previously cruised would sail to Australasia and the Pacific Islands.
It’s no surprise, therefore, that bucket-list trips and unique itineraries have performed well for the agency, with destinations such as Japan, South Africa, Indian Ocean and Antarctica leading the charge.
“Our clients are increasingly looking for different experiences and ‘never been before’ itineraries, and they want to feel that their holiday is truly special. We’ve also seen strong demand for all-inclusive cruises,” Seliman adds.
Cruise Monk’s customers are a mix of experienced cruisers and first timers, typically aged over 40, but increasingly younger professionals and families seeking something different, Seliman explains.
In five years, we aim to be a leading name in cruise travel. That means expanding our portfolio, launching an advanced booking platform, and possibly even growing into international markets
Cruise Monks, which is a member of The Advantage Travel Partnership, is currently run day-to-day by Seliman, but will be onboarding two new team members this month.
“We are expanding with care, maintaining a lean operation and choosing people who share our passion and customer-first approach, and we expect the team to grow significantly to 10 by year two,” Seliman says.
“In five years, we aim to be a leading name in cruise travel, known for quality, integrity, and innovation. That means expanding our portfolio, launching an advanced booking platform, and possibly even growing into international markets.
“But at the heart of it all, we want to stay true to our DNA: delivering real value, authentic service, and unforgettable voyages.”
