Emerald Cruises will launch a new Star class ship, Emerald Astra, and confirmed plans to refurbish its European river fleet
The investments follow an increase in demand for river cruises as Emerald reports a 32 per cent boost in river trade bookings from 2023 to 2024 YTD.
The 180-guest Astra will join the fleet in 2026 and sail the Rhine, Moselle and Danube rivers. Emerald’s 2026 river season will be available to book from 22 October 2024.
The ship’s updated design focuses on style and functionality, offering amenities such as a pool/cinema combination, multiple dining options, and a sun deck with panoramic views.
The fleet-wide enhancement programme, slated for completion by 2025, includes vessels navigating the Rhine-Main-Danube, Rhône in France, and the Douro in Portugal.
Key upgrades include Horizon Bar and lounge redesigns for Star-ships on the Rhine-Main-Danube route, as well as revamped pool and cinema spaces. New furniture will be added to Reflections Restaurant and The Terrace.
“As we continue to expand our fleet and enhance the guest experience, our commitment remains steadfast: to provide unrivalled luxury and value in river cruising,” said Glen Moroney, founder and chair of Scenic Group.
