A surge in cruise sales has driven homeworking agency Travel Counsellors to a record-breaking month of sales

The company’s UK leisure travel sales hit £60m in February, up 20 per cent on the previous year, making it the best February in the company’s 30-year history.

Cruise bookings, which now represent nearly 15 per cent of leisure sales at Travel Counsellors, were up in February by nearly 40 per cent on the previous year, following a bumper January which saw bookings for holidays-at-sea top £10m.

The sea-faring sales theme continued, with luxury cruises sailing into the top three trending holiday types booked by Travel Counsellor business owners in February.

Jim Eastwood, global sales director, said: “Cruising has always been a much-loved way for Travel Counsellors’ customers to discover the world, one port at a time, but in recent weeks we’ve seen wave upon wave of cruise bookings, whether that’s travellers wishing to holiday at sea, or sightsee on river sailings.

“Success for our Travel Counsellors business owners, however, is when they can perfectly match their customers personal preferences to the best cruising experience for them, and we’re so proud to work closely with our suppliers to create cruising customers for life.”

Travel Counsellors’ homeworkers urged to continue peaks momentum

The bumper month for sales was supported by a month-long incentive, dubbed “Fab Feb”, which saw agents urged to continue peaks momentum by beating their previous February performance.

The more bookings a TC business owner made, the more entries they gained to win a spot on one of two luxury getaways to Antigua, and a Bali-Singapore twin centre trip.

More than 150 agents celebrated their best ever month in February, and the top five leisure bookings made by individual TCs in February smashed six figures each.

Last month, Travel Counsellors welcomed Virgin Voyages to its central hub in Manchester for a “drop-in training day” amid the surge in ocean and river bookings.
