Carnival Cruise Line has cancelled all of its 2020 cruises from US ports, apart from Miami and Port Canaveral.
The US-based cruise line will now only operate cruises out of it two Florida homeports as a result of travel uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Carnival revealed it made the decision to be able to focus on the safe return to service of its two homeports “whenever that might occur”.
The move from Carnival comes after the US Centres for Disease Control (CDC) made a decision to extend its no-sail order for cruise operations until the end of October.
Despite the ports still being earmarked for action, Carnival is offering guests booked onto cruises in November and December from Miami and Port Canaveral a full refund.
Encouraging passengers to re-book, the cruise line is also offering future cruise credit with a bonus of extra on board credit.
President of Carnival Cruise Line Christine Duffy said: “As we have said throughout this pause, our return to operations will be gradual and phased in.
“And while we are not making any presumptions, once cruising is allowed, we will centre our initial start-up from the homeports of Miami and Port Canaveral.”
“The health and safety of our guests, crew and communities we serve remain the cornerstone of our plans and decisions.
“The patience and support of our guests and travel agent partners have been a huge motivation to our team as we have worked through this unprecedented situation and we are dedicated to getting back to operations when the time is right.”
Despite the cancellation of operations, Carnival Cruise Line announced this week its launching a new eight-part online sales certification, aimed at helping agents enhance their sales skills.
The series has been designed to help agents expand their business and clientele post Covid-19, focusing on building strategies, marketing, hosting virtual cruise parties, creating a personal brand and using social media.
