American Cruise Lines first to resume cruises in US

American Cruise Lines

American Cruise Lines has announced that it is to be the first cruise line to resume sailings in the US.

The cruise line is planning to recommence American Song cruises on 20 June on the Columbia and Snake Rivers, with a 75 per cent reduced capacity of 180 passengers, which is lower than the 250 passenger and crew limit set by the CDC.

American Harmony will follow on 28 June on the Mississippi, also with a 75 per cent reduced capacity of 190 passengers. The cruise line is aiming to restart cruises in Alaska in late June/July on its news new coastal ship, American Constellation, with a reduced capacity of 175 passengers.

American Cruise Lines will continue to offer its Cruise With Comfort plan for all cruises through 31 October.

American implemented Cruise with Comfort earlier this year to provide flexibility to both guests and travel advisors following the coronavirus outbreak.

The programme allows guests to cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before the start of their cruise and receive Cruise Vouchers for 100 per cent of amounts paid.

The cruise line has said it will continue to protect 100 per cent of travel advisor commissions on all Cruise with Comfort bookings.

Earlier this year, American Cruise Lines also rolled out its Travel Advisor Assurance Plan. Under this plan, commissions that are affected by Cruise with Comfort or by suspended cruise operations will be 100 per cent commission protected for cruise vouchers issued.

American recently partnered with Vikand Solutions, a leading global expert in maritime medical operations and healthcare, and has implemented a number of new safety protocols following the coronavirus outbreak and in preparation for the resumption of sailings to ensure the health and safety of passengers and crew.
