Award-winning actor Hannah Waddingham, renowned for her roles in Ted Lasso and Game of Thrones, will be unveiled as Godmother of Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess during a naming ceremony in the Port of Barcelona on 23 April

“We’re delighted to welcome the illuminous and elegant Hannah Waddingham to serve as Godmother for our sensational new Sun Princess,” said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president.

“We’re truly honoured Hannah will officially name our most impressive, luxurious and stunning Love Boat ever created, and join an esteemed group of Princess Godparents including members of the Royal family.”

Waddingham, who joins an esteemed lineage of Godparents to Princess ships that includes Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales and Sopha Loren, is best known for her award-winning turns in Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso and HBO’s Game of Thrones. The London-born actor is also renowned for hosting both the BBC Eurovision Song Contest and the Olivier Awards.

Princess Cruises was forced to delay Sun Princess’ inaugural sailing on 18 February due to delays with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. However, it has since taken to the seas, embarking on its first voyage around the Mediterranean, with Cruise Trade News recently onboard to sample the ship’s onboard features as well as its variety of onshore excursions.

Sun Princess is the line’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered ship and the debut addition in Princess’ new Sphere class. The vessel will feature new dining, entertainment and activity options, as well as a range of staterooms and suites across a broad spectrum of categories.

It will also include the Dome, a transformational entertainment venue inspired by the terraces of Santorini, a Piazza and the three-storey Horizons Dining Room.

Additional favourites with new designs scheduled to debut on Sun Princess include Alfredo’s Pizzeria, which will feature a new open-mouth oven, the line’s largest Princess Casino, and Crown Grill, Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria, and Princess Live!.
