A-Rosa outlines next steps on sustainability journey

A-Rosa River Cruises has outlined the next steps it intends to take “to become Europe’s most sustainable river cruise operator”.

The line is working with the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, to create a long-term and “measurable” strategy, to be announced by mid 2023.

The next stages in the process include a data gathering project to calculate A-Rosa’s overall sustainability footprint.

This will be followed by “a detailed sustainability strategy and roadmap with concrete goals to reduce footprint”, the line said.

A-Rosa added that the implementation of that strategy will be “closely monitored through a management tool” and supported by the Fraunhofer Institute and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

A-Rosa ‘serious’ about sustainability

A-Rosa sustainability manager Sandra Wendland said: “This project clearly demonstrates just how serious we are about creating a sustainable future.

“We are committed to ensuring we play our part in preserving some of Europe’s most stunning destinations for future generations.

“However, we recognise our approach needs to be holistic, as we have a responsibility not only towards our destinations, but also to our guests and employees.

“Working with the prestigious Fraunhofer Institute and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, both now and in the future, will ensure we are accountable, transparent and continually evolving.

“A-Rosa is driven by innovation, and through this extensive sustainability project we are setting new standards for the entire river cruise industry. A-Rosa Sena, our ground-breaking hybrid-powered ship, is just the start.”
