Viking takes delivery of latest ocean ship Viking Mars

Viking launches new ocean ship

Viking has taken delivery of its newest ocean ship, Viking Mars.

The event took place at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The ship will now make its way to Valletta, Malta, ahead of a naming ceremony on 17 May.

Viking Mars will be named by its godmother, Lady Fiona Carnarvon, the Countess of Carnarvon.

The ship will then sail itineraries in the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and Northern Europe, before repositioning at the end of the year for voyages around Australia and New Zealand.

Viking chairman Torstein Hagen said: “As we celebrate our 25th anniversary and a year of important milestones, today we are very proud to welcome the newest ocean ship to our award-winning fleet.

“Lady Carnarvon has honoured us by serving as godmother to the Viking Mars, and we look forward to welcoming guests on board this beautiful new sister ship in the coming weeks.”

In January, the company launched Viking Expeditions and its first purpose-built expedition ship Viking Octantis.

in March 2022, the company named eight new European river ships during a special event in Paris.

In addition, by the end of the year, the line will have also welcomed a second expedition ship, another identical ocean ship, and new purpose-built vessels for the Nile, Mekong and Mississippi rivers.
