Viking becomes first line to operate domestic China sailings for Brits

Viking Cruises Viking Yi Dun docked in Shanghai

Viking has become the first line to offer Brits the chance to take a domestic sailing out of China with three new itineraries.

The new voyages range from 10 to 20 days and explore cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Each sailing includes an itinerary off China’s coast, which highlights rarely-seen destinations and ports, to which only Viking has access – something that has never before been offered for international visitors.

Itineraries will operate from September to November on Viking Yi Dun, which will be the first ship dedicated specifically to the foreign market to operate domestic sailings in China.

“We are proud that Viking will be the first to operate domestic sailings in China for international travellers,” said Torstein Hagen, chair of Viking.

“Our guests are curious travellers who are interested in experiences that broaden their mind. China, with one of the richest cultures in the world, has been inspiring travellers for centuries.”

New Viking sailings to deliver China’s ‘main highlights’

A 20-day Wonders of China itinerary round-trip from Beijing roundtrip delivers China’s main highlights, including the Great Wall and a visit to the Terra Cotta Warriors.

The 15-day Classic China & the Coast sailing from Beijing, Xian to Hong Kong combines the experiences of Viking’s 10-day China Discovery voyage with opportunity to see the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Terra Cotta Warriors and other iconic landmarks.

It comes after the line announced plans to introduce an additional 10 vessels to its river fleet in the coming years.
