Scenic expands expedition range on back of demand

Scenic is to launch Scenic Eclipse II, on the back of its soon to launch six-star ship Scenic Eclipse.

The announcement comes after founder and chairman Glen Moroney said there had been ‘unprecedented interest’ in Scenic Eclipse, from guests keen to experience luxury and expedition cruising.

Launching in 2020, Scenic Eclipse II will embark on her maiden voyage from Athens to Lisbon before the debut sailing season, which will include the European and Russian Artic – regions which the cruise line said are well suited to its expedition ships.

Itineraries will include remote destinations including Russia’s White Sea; the Northwest Passage; the rarely visited southern Greenland; and journeys from Alaska to Russian, across the Bering Sea.

“The debut of Scenic Eclipse II will not only allow us to continue our passion for innovation in design in handcrafted itineraries, which we are confident will appeal to a wide variety of guests,” said Moroney. “Itineraries for the ship’s debut season will be released in April 2018.”

Building will start in Croatia, where Eclipse is already under construction. Scenic Eclipse II will include 114 all-veranda suites, nine restaurants, eight lunges and bars, a spa, fitness and indoor and outdoor pools, helicopter and submarines.

Angela Sloan, head of Sales UK, said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response through travel agents for Scenic Eclipse, and can only expect even greater things from Scenic Eclipse II. These incredible yachts will venture to beautiful and unique locations, which could not previously be accessed; it is an exciting and innovative new product we are incredibly excited to offer.”
