Saga’s grand voyage has been designed for the intrepid traveller

With the continent being situated right between the world’s two great oceans – the Atlantic to the north and the Atlantic to the south – cruises to South America are nothing if not legendary, one, in particular, being Saga’s new grand voyage for 2021.

The British cruise line’s epic 83-night itinerary, commencing January 2021, will sail through the Amazon, Cape Horn, Punta Arenas, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Montevideo, taking place on board the line’s stunning new boutique cruise ship, Spirit of Discovery.

A once-in-a-lifetime voyage, the itinerary sees clients circumnavigate this fascinating continent, discovering captivating landscapes, ancient civilisations, and characterful cities as they go.

Following the transatlantic crossing from Southampton, the cruise ship will arrive in Brazil, a country renowned for its beautiful beaches, colonial treasures and spectacular biodiversity.

From here, cruisers will get to spend a whole week soaking up the exotic beauty of the Amazon River and rainforest.

After experiencing South America’s natural wildlife, guests will then take in a trio of thriving and vibrant cities: samba-fuelled Rio de Janeiro, eclectic Montevideo, and dynamic Buenos Aires.

As the ship continues to travel south, she will call at the Falkland Islands, the beautiful archipelago known for its dramatic landscapes, before navigating the notorious southern tip of South America, Cape Horn.

Guests will next get to fully appreciate Patagonia’s rugged and wild coastline of fjords, forests and fields, not to mention Chile’s Lake District, with its vast glaciers, sapphire-blue lakes and ancient forests – both destinations designed for the intrepid traveller.

From here, they will venture to Ecuador and call at cities backed by the dramatic Andes mountain range.
