Consumer interest in river and expedition cruising has “never been higher”, according to CLIA UK and Ireland managing director Andy Harmer
As a result, CLIA is on the lookout for two cohorts of 30 frontline agents to take part in two new hybrid learning initiatives focussed on the sectors.
“We want to ensure that agents are equipped with the specialist knowledge and advice that will allow them to take advantage of this growing demand,” Harmer continued.
CLIA is looking for two cohorts of 30 agents to join the six-month learning programmes, which will lead to a graduation ceremony and special certification that recognises them as river or expedition “Cruise Champions”.
The programme is aimed at agents who are new or have limited experience of the sectors and will include a mix of classroom training, plus monthly webinars and digital catchups in a structured six-month programme.
Content will cover a mix of destination training, product training and sales techniques, as well as ideas and suggestions on how to find suitable holidaymakers. CLIA has created the programme alongside its river cruise and expedition cruise line operators.
“We appreciate the support of our cruise line operators in developing these courses that will offer a blend of learning that will ensure participants graduate as true Cruise Champions and are a go-to for both customers and colleagues,” Harmer added.
CLIA to launch new training programmes following Cruise Week
Agents will be asked to commit to a number of learning hours each month, working through a complete programme in order to achieve the certificate.
The programmes start in November, with each being launched with a full classroom day of learning. Agents will be asked to apply for a place, with registration opening after CLIA Cruise Week (September 16-22).
On Monday (16 September), the organisation will host a webinar for its members on the new EU border requirements for the Entry-Exit System (EES) and European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS).
