Princess Cruises completes sea trials for Royal-class ship Discovery Princess

Discovery Princess Sea Trials

Princess Cruises has announced the completion of sea trials for Discovery Princess.

The sixth and final Royal-class vessel set out to sea from the construction dock at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, for a series of tests of the steering, navigation equipment and propulsion.

Discovery Princess has since returned to the shipyard for further exterior and interior finishing in preparation for its maiden seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise, sailing roundtrip from the Port of Los Angeles on 27 March 2022.

The ship is the latest to join the fleet offering the Princess MedallionClass, which includes a wearable device that enables contactless boarding, locating family and friends anywhere on the ship, as well as enhanced services such as food and drink on demand.

Guests will also be able to use MedallionNet, described by Princess Cruises as “the best wifi at sea”.

The 3,660-guest Discovery Princess will operate Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages from March 27 to 24 April 2022, before heading up the Pacific coast to begin a season of seven-night Alaska cruises from Seattle.

It will feature Sky Suites, which have 270-degree panorama views, dining options from Michelin-star chefs, and new show productions in the Princess Theatre.

Earlier in December 2021, Princess Cruises named Enchanted Princess, the fifth Royal-class ship.

Enchanted Princess will be based in Europe from April to September 2022 to sail on a series of Scandinavian voyages from Copenhagen.
