Portsmouth praises Virgin Voyages for ‘huge economic boost’

Virgin Voyages Resilient Lady sailing

The leader of Portsmouth City Council has exalted Virgin Voyages for the “huge economic significance” the line will bring to the city when Resilient Lady homeports there for a series of European itineraries

Cllr Steve Pitt said the local authority is “so pleased” the adult-only cruise line is returning to the south coast port for a third time with its newest vessel.

“As a council-owned port this has huge economic significance for the city, and with our aim to be the first port of call for luxury, boutique and expedition cruise lines in the UK, we look forward to welcoming the award-winning cruise ship to her new home,” he added.

Resilient Lady is due to arrive in Portsmouth on Friday (23 August) for its inaugural UK season following a summer programme of Greek Isles itineraries.

From Portsmouth, the ship will sail a collection of late summer voyages to destinations such as Amsterdam, Bruges, Bordeaux, Casablanca and Lisbon.

Virgin Voyages to offer three- to six-night roundtrip sailings from Portsmouth

Shane Riley, vice president of UK and international sales at Virgin Voyages, said: “We’re back in British waters once again, this time with a variety of short cultural stints and sunny adventure sailings to help sailors [customers] escape the British weather.”

From August to October, Resilient will embark on three- to six-night roundtrip itineraries, as well as a 12-night sailing to Barcelona.

On Friday (23 August), the vessel will depart on a four-night From England to Amsterdam (& Back) cruise, round-trip from Portsmouth via Amsterdam. Prices start from £1,162 per Insider Cabin.

It comes after an increase in the number of holidaymakers travelling to stargaze inspired a new collection of longer sailings from the line.
