P&O Cruises set for Iona’s Norway debut

P&O Cruises Iona

P&O Cruises’ newest ship Iona will set sail for its maiden season in the Norwegian fjords on 9 April.

Iona will operate weekly departures from Southampton until September.

P&O added that ex-SAS personnel and expert survival guides will take guests on a RIB ride from Hellesylt to Ljøkaia.

Guests will be able to kayak along the Geirangerfjord, followed by a wilderness BBQ lunch.

Award-winning restaurateur Kjartan Skjelde has also created a six-course fine dining taster menu for guests sailing on Iona.

P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “After a very successful inaugural season of UK coastal cruises and the winter in the Canaries and Europe, we are delighted to see Iona embark on her first season in the fjords.

“These holidays offer adrenaline experiences combined with the tranquility of the natural environment.

“Norway is a destination best experienced by sea and with new, memorable experiences both on board and on shore, guests can embrace an exciting wilderness and wellbeing adventure or simply sit back and enjoy the panoramas.”

P&O Cruises growing the fleet

Iona will be joined by sister ship Arvia in December 2022.

At the end of March, P&O Cruises celebrated the full return of its fleet with Arcadia setting sail from the Canary Islands.

At the time, Ludlow said: “It is evident that our guests are reassured by the steps we have taken to protect their health and wellbeing and that they are delighted to be back on board re-igniting their passion for travel.

“We all spent so long missing the simple pleasures of great restaurants, beaches and city sights that having them all now makes the holiday experience even better.”
