Oceania Cruises bolsters Sonata class with fifth ship order

Oceania Sonata

Oceania Cruises has placed an order for a fifth Sonata class ship with Fincantieri shipbuilders, scheduled for delivery in 2037

The announcement comes following a record launch day for Oceania Sonata in January. “Oceania Sonata will set a new benchmark for spaciousness, artistry and residential comfort,” said Jason Montague, chief luxury officer of Oceania Cruises.

“The record-setting demand for Oceania Sonata affirms that travellers are seeking choice, connection and authentic experiences. The addition of a fifth Sonata class ship allows us to provide our guests even more enriching, experiential travel opportunities.”

Debuting in August 2027, the Sonata class will offer one-third more space, new suite categories and reimagined top-of-ship accommodations. The ship also introduces two culinary experiences: La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France, the first restaurant at sea created in collaboration with Maîtres Cuisiniers de France; and Nikkei Kitchen, a culinary concept celebrating the fusion of Peruvian ingredients and refined Japanese techniques.

Oceania Arietta, Sonata’s first sister ship, will open for sale in 2027. Sonata’s inaugural season, launching in August 2027, will feature blend of European and Caribbean destinations, from Rome (Civitavecchia), Barcelona and Athens (Piraeus) to Paros and Koper, before transitioning westward to sail to Tortola and Bermuda, along with Manzanillo and Puerto Quetzal.

The announcement comes on the same day as Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Oceania Cruises’ sister brand under Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, signed an agreement with Fincantieri to construct a fourth vessel in its upcoming Prestige class, scheduled for delivery in 2036.
