Explora Journeys has delayed the delivery of Explora II to allow more time for “final touches” to be made to the vessel
In a joint decision with shipbuilder Fincantieri, the luxury arm of the MSC Group confirmed the vessel will now be delivered on 12 September 2024.
Its maiden voyage will therefore take place on 16 September, departing from Civitavecchia with a seven-night sailing to Sorrento, Lipari, Trapani and Siracusa in Sicily, Valletta in Malta and Tarragona, Spain.
Explora Journeys is contacting guests booked on the voyages affected, either directly or through their travel agents, to arrange an alternative cruise on Explora II or sister ship, Explora I which is also sailing in the Mediterranean.
Explora II will sail this summer in the Western Mediterranean with visits to destinations such as Portofino, Porto Cervo, Saint-Tropez, Calvi, Mahon and Monte Carlo with sailings including overnight and longer stays in port.
Explora Journeys bolsters UK trade team
Last year, the line was forced to cancel the maiden voyage of Explora I because of a problem with materials used on the vessel.
Earlier this year the line’s chief executive Michael Ungerer stepped down due to “personal reasons”. He held the position for nearly five years and helped establish the new brand while overseeing the launch of Explora I.
Prior to that, the luxury company expanded its sales team for the UK and Ireland with the appointment of Koral Lipton, who was previously business development manager for APT Travel Group.
